MISSION: The International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (ISBRA) serves to promote excellence internationally in all aspects of biomedical research on alcoholism and alcohol-related biomedical phenomena.
AFFILIATE SOCIETIES: A member in good standing of an affiliated regional society of ISBRA: Asia-Pacific Society for Alcohol and Addiction Research (AAPSAR), European Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (ESBRA), Japanese Medical Society of Alcohol and Addiction Studies (JMSAAS), Latin American Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (LASBRA), Research Society on Alcohol (RSA), need only complete the ISBRA Membership Application Form to initiate ISBRA membership. In addition, the affiliation to other societies worldwide provides a broad network for collaboration and encourages an open-minded approach to research and treatment for alcoholism.
NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES: Members are encouraged to form connections with others of like interest around the world using our affiliate memberships. ISBRA has both a Communications Committee and an Education Committee that provide a year-round range of networking and engagement opportunities.
CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Members are invited to participate in webinars presented by international experts in the field of alcohol studies, which are supported by ISBRA. The ISBRA Bulletin is a quarterly publication that provides updates on recently published articles, interviews with experts in alcohol studies, and announcements regarding meetings of interest to the research community: https://www.isbra.com/communications
ALCOHOL: CLINCAL AND EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH (ACER) JOURNAL: Members are encouraged to publish in ACER. Members with substantial peer-review experience can also apply to serve on the ACER Board of Field Editors. In addition, members who want to participate in the peer-review process without assuming editorial responsibility are welcome to serve as peer reviewers.
INTERNATIONAL CONGRESSES AND REGISTRATION REDUCTIONS: ISBRA is unique and important because we have a global presence in alcohol research and care. The ISBRA Board has approved the 2024 Congress to be held September 23-26 in beautiful Melbourne, Australia. The Victorian government is also supporting this congress. ISBRA members enjoy a discounted registration fee and may be eligible for travel support.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO): ISBRA will continue its efforts to promote our official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a Non-Government Organization (NGO). In addition, ISBRA holds biennial worldwide congresses to better understand the nature and treatment of alcohol use disorder, which is crucial for lessening the worldwide problems associated with alcohol consumption.
NON-PROFIT ENTITY RECOGNIZED BY THE US GOVERNMENT: ISBRA is formally recognized by the U.S. Government as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Therefore, donations to ISBRA are 100% tax-deductible if you file taxes within the United States.
ISBRA membership dues vary depending on your career stage and geographic location. ISBRA uses the the World Bank Country Classifications by Income Level to adjust dues based on the applicant's country, and likewise adjusts dues based on the applicant's career stage. After your application has been reviewed and approved, you'll be assigned to the appropriate dues category. From there you'll receive an invoice for paying your dues, after which your membership will become active.
The Membership Committee reviews applications six (6) times a year. Application deadlines are: January 2, March 15, April 1, June 1, July 1 and October 1. You will be notified in writing of your formal acceptance into ISBRA.
