As its name implies ISBRA is an international organization devoted to promoting excellence in biomedical research on alcoholism. The Society is governed by a Board of Directors and has its Central Office in Denver, Colorado, USA.
The Society provides Travel Fellowships to young scientists to enable them to present their research findings at ISBRA Congresses.
Research Awards are made for outstanding contributions to biomedical research on alcoholism.
The Society also sponsors a scientific journal in conjunction with the Research Society on Alcoholism: Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research (ACER).
ISBRA has three original affiliated regional societies:
European Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism
Japanese Medical Society for Alcohol Studies
Research Society on Alcoholism (North America)
In June 2008, the Society ratified two new affiliated regional societies
Latin American Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (LASBRA)
Asia-Pacific Society for Alcohol and Addiction Research (APSAAR)
